MEDIA RELEASE: SullivanLaw donates tournament proceeds to CHEO

November 1, 2016 – OTTAWA   SullivanLaw is happy to announce the donation of $525.04 to the Cardiology Department at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO Foundation), raised at their recent SullivanLaw Coach-Pitch Tournament 2016 in Alta Vista in August.

“When we realized that the Scott Tokessy Memorial Gold Glove Tournament couldn’t accept any more teams for their August tournament, we decided to host our own, smaller tournament for the children, so they wouldn’t miss out,” says organizer Timothy N. Sullivan, an Ottawa lawyer and father of baseball-loving kids.  “But we realized it was also a great way to do our bit for CHEO as well.”

Working quickly, the parent volunteers from the South Ottawa Blues were able to pull together their own event, hosting teams from the Orleans and East Nepean Little League organizations.

South Ottawa Blues coach Colin Brearley was happy to be involved. “Friendly tournaments are a great way for the kids to test the skills they’ve learned during the season and get together with friends across the region,” he says. “We really appreciated those parents who organized this great day of baseball.”

SullivanLaw’s sponsorship meant that the fees were kept low for participating teams. “We wanted everyone to be able to participate, even at the last minute. Thanks to the help of the kids and parents, we had $525 left over to donate to CHEO in memory of Scott Tokessy – which meant we were able to do our part in the spirit of the original tournament’s goals.”

All games were played at the Canterbury Community Centre ball fields #1 and #2, 2185 Arch St., Ottawa.
